Terms of Service

Last updated: May 13, 2026

TL;DR — the short version:

1. Acceptance of terms

By accessing 4ort.xyz (“the Service”) you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.

2. The Service

4ort.xyz is a knowledge graph derived from Wikidata and other public-domain or open-licensed data sources, ranked by popularity signals. We provide:

3. Data licensing & attribution

The structured data we publish (entity records, relationships, classification, citations, popularity scores) is released under Creative Commons Zero (CC0 1.0) — effectively public domain. You may use it for any purpose, including commercial use, without attribution.

However, the underlying data sources have their own attribution requirements (e.g. Wikidata is CC0, but some sources we cite are CC-BY or have specific disclaimers). See /sources for the full breakdown.

AI-generated long-form content on entity pages is also offered under CC0, but you should always verify factual claims against the cited primary sources before publishing.

4. Acceptable use

You agree NOT to:

If you want to do a heavy bulk download, please email us first — we’ll likely just provide the dump file directly so you don’t need to scrape.

5. The API

API keys are personal and tied to your billing account. You’re responsible for keeping your key secret. Sharing your key (or its quota) with third parties is not allowed.

We may rate-limit, throttle, or revoke API access for abuse, non-payment, or violation of these Terms. We’ll usually try to contact you first unless the abuse is severe.

Pricing, quotas, and feature tiers are documented on the /api page and may change with at least 30 days’ notice for paid tiers.

6. Accuracy disclaimer & AI-generated content

Important: 4ort.xyz aggregates data from many third-party sources (Wikidata, openFDA, USDA, Common Crawl, Wikimedia projects, and others). We make our best effort to keep it correct and up-to-date, but we make no guarantees about accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or fitness for any particular purpose. Underlying sources may themselves be out of date, incomplete, or incorrect, and data we ingested at one point in time may no longer reflect the current state of the world.

AI-generated content: Portions of the site — including long-form entity articles, narrative summaries, classification labels, ranking explanations, and search routing — are produced or smoothed by large language models. These outputs can contain factual errors, fabricated details (“hallucinations”), or outdated context even when every cited fact in isolation is real. Treat AI-generated prose as a starting point, not a citation. The inline citations are the authoritative source — the surrounding sentences are not.

Not professional advice: Nothing on 4ort.xyz is medical, legal, financial, tax, safety, regulatory, or other professional advice. Entries for drugs, supplements, foods, vehicles, consumer electronics, and similar regulated products restate public-record catalog data (e.g. FDA NDC Directory, USDA FoodData Central, NHTSA recalls, FCC equipment records) and do not constitute guidance on whether something is safe, effective, legal, or appropriate for you. Consult a qualified professional for decisions that matter.

Every factual claim on the site links to its underlying source. If you’re going to rely on something, click through and verify against the primary source.

7. Intellectual property

The data is CC0 as described above. The website code, layout, branding (“Popularity Graph”, “4ort”), and original written content (essays, methodology, this page) are copyrighted by the 4ort team, all rights reserved unless otherwise noted.

8. Privacy

Your privacy is important. See our Privacy Policy for the full details. Short version: we don’t use cookies, don’t track you, and don’t sell your data.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We don’t guarantee uptime, accuracy, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, or business opportunities, arising from your use of the Service.

For paid customers, our total liability in any 12-month period is capped at the amount you paid us during that period.

11. Termination

You can stop using the Service at any time. We may terminate or suspend your access (including API keys) for breach of these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (data licensing, IP, warranty disclaimers, liability limits) will survive.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where the operator is resident, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction unless local consumer-protection law requires otherwise.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms occasionally. Material changes will be announced on the homepage and the “Last updated” date at the top will be revised. Continued use after changes means you accept the new Terms.
